John Lewis, a civil rights hero described as “the conscience of Congress,” proudly announced his endorsement for Victory Fund candidate Tina Podlodowksi for Washington’s Secretary of State. In a video released today he applauded her work to protect the “precious” right to vote and strides to make voting more accessible.
Congressman Lewis described Podlodowski as a “champion of voting rights” and criticized opponent Kim Wyman for supporting restrictive voting measures. Currently, Wyman is embroiled in several controversies, ranging from distributing incorrect voting information to violating campaign finance laws.
Podlodowski said of the endorsement: “Like Congressman Lewis, I believe our democracy is stronger when more people participate. and I am deeply honored to have his support. Washington voters deserve a Secretary of State who will who proactively work to increase participation in our elections.”
In addition to his work in Congress to uphold the Voting Rights Act, Congressman Lewis was one of the Big Six during the Civil Rights Movement, served as president of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), was one the original freedom riders, and marched at Selma.
Victory Fund was proud to work with Congressman Lewis and Tina’s campaign to help secure the endorsement and video.
