Washington, DC – Today LGBTQ Victory Fund President & CEO Mayor Annise Parker released the following statement on Roe v. Wade:
“This is a dark hour for our country. The draft opinion seeking to overturn Roe v. Wade, should it become the majority ruling, would be a devastating and irreparable blow to the rights of pregnant people. Such an assault will have dangerous impacts and will cost lives. It also has enormous consequences for LGBTQ people and other marginalized communities whose legal rights often rely on the fundamental right to privacy, which the court majority appears determined to undermine.
“It is now clear a majority on the Supreme Court honors politics over precedent when it comes to protecting our most basic rights. It is imperative that lawmakers at the state and federal levels immediately push forward ambitious legislative agendas that codify the rights of women, people who are pregnant and marginalized communities. We must also go into this election cycle with fury, determined to oust those who helped create this catastrophe.”
LGBTQ Victory Fund is the only national organization dedicated to endorsing and supporting LGBTQ candidates at every level of government. Its endorsement criteria, since its founding in 1991, requires candidates support abortion rights and the right to privacy.
