Washington, DC – Today, LGBTQ+ Victory Fund Spotlight candidate Mario Castillo won his runoff to represent District H on the Houston City Council.
LGBTQ+ Victory Fund President & CEO Annise Parker, the first out LGBTQ+ mayor of Houston, released the following statement:
“The tens of thousands of LGBTQ+ people who live and work and pay taxes in the City of Houston can be proud of the representation they’ll have on the city council with the election of Mario Castillo. Voters in District H rejected homophobic dog whistles and went to the polls to ensure equality and fairness would prevail. Mario worked to earn the trust of his neighbors, and his success tonight is a testament to his deep roots and longtime work In Houston.”
