Washington, DC –Today Victory Fund, the only national organization dedicated to electing LGBTQ leaders to public office, endorsed Maryland state Senator Rich Madaleno in his gubernatorial race. If elected in 2018, Madaleno would become the first openly LGBTQ person to serve as Governor of Maryland and one of the highest-ranking LGBTQ elected officials in the country.
Victory Fund President & CEO Aisha C. Moodie-Mills released the following statement about Madaleno’s endorsement:
“Victory Fund is thrilled to endorse Rich Madaleno for Governor of Maryland. Rich’s history of success in passing smart and progressive public policy — including his leadership role in making the freedom to marry the law of the land in Maryland — makes him the obvious choice for Marylanders. And while there have been other LGBTQ candidates for Governor in Maryland, he is the first to receive our endorsement. Rich has the opportunity to make history as the first person with a same-sex spouse ever elected to a governor’s office in America. We are proud to support Rich as he charts a path to victory in the June primary and the November general election. Rich Madaleno will be the experienced, progressive Governor Marylanders deserve, and also a vital LGBTQ voice nationally.”
Victory Fund will provide campaign, fundraising and other support to Madaleno as an endorsed candidate. Since 1991, Victory Fund has helped thousands of openly LGBTQ candidates win local, state and federal elections.
