Biography
Austin Bruckner Carrillo, a dedicated community advocate and proven leader, is running for the Hayward Unified School District. With a unique lived experience, he’s committed to positive changes. His priorities include keeping resources in classrooms, improving communication, and supporting students’ emotional needs, especially those from challenging home environments like his own upbringing. Raised in a family plagued by addiction and domestic violence, Austin experienced eviction, abuse, and homelessness. Thanks to his adoptive grandparents, he found stability and support. Their influence inspired him to dedicate his career to improving systems for children facing similar challenges. With a background in government and community service, Austin currently serves as the Associate Director of the Alameda County District Attorney’s Community Support Bureau. He’s also Chair of the City’s Community Services Commission and a passionate grassroots community organizer. As a Delegate to the California Democratic Party and President of a local LGBTQ nonprofit, Austin is deeply involved in making Hayward stronger and more inclusive. He’s a proud union member and has lived in Hayward for nearly 10 years.
