Dan will be the first out gay man to serve on the Santa Monica City Council!
Biography
Dan is a West Point graduate and LGBTQ+ veteran running for Santa Monica City Council. He believes Santa Monica deserves clean streets and safe neighborhoods and must address the housing affordability crisis. As an Army officer who first served under “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” Dan led soldiers in South Korea, Kuwait, and Iraq, flying helicopters in combat zones against the Islamic State. After leaving the military, Dan graduated from Harvard Business School then went on to launch the world’s largest electric delivery van fleet, reducing carbon emissions in low-income communities across the nation. He transitioned into the diversity, equity, and inclusion field, where he fights workplace inequities for Black, Latino, and women leaders in a workforce of 1.3 million. Dan serves on the Santa Monica Pier Board of Directors and chairs the Leasing Sub-Committee, partnering with small businesses to create a safe, welcoming, and economically sustainable business environment. He previously served in leadership of the Santa Monica Democratic Club, first serving as Vice Chair of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee and then Treasurer before becoming Vice President of Political Action, where he led the Club’s organizing efforts supporting Labor’s strikes in 2023. Dan is currently completing a Master of Public Administration with a concentration in Local Government from the University of North Carolina.
