Biography
Leigh Finke is running to be the first transgender state legislator in Minnesota. Leigh is a journalist, advocate, and filmmaker. Advocacy and activism have been a central component of her life since she began protesting the Iraq War in college. Since then, she has been committed to advocating for abortion rights, marriage equality, racial justice, and trans liberation. She worked in renewable energy policy advocacy, before pursuing publishing and journalism. She has published two books, Queerfully and Wonderfully Made: A Handbook for LGBTQ+ Christian Teens, and also the Welcoming and Affirming: A Guide to Supporting and Working with LGBTQ+ Christian Youth. She is also the writer and producer of two documentaries, Ending the Silence and White Savior. Her journalism has appeared in Yes Magazine, Truthout, Christian Science Monitor, The Advocate USA Today, and many other national outlets. Leigh also makes documentary films and started Totally Gay Productions, a full-service video production company servicing non-profits, schools, and faith communities in the Twin Cities area. She lives in Saint Paul with her kids.
