Biography
Jason has dedicated over a decade to public service, including his role as a legislative staffer and Southfield City Council member. Elected in 2019 by just 27 votes and re-elected in 2021, he guided his city through the pandemic and focused on neighborhood investments, budget balancing, affordable housing, and policing reform with a strong commitment to equity.
As Chair of the Economic Development and Small Business Committee in the Michigan House of Representatives, Jason is running for re-election to continue championing economic growth and support for local businesses. He is prepared to address crucial issues in the 18th district, such as infrastructure, affordable housing, and environmental protection. As a lawyer passionate about justice, Jason is also dedicated to combating voter suppression, reforming the criminal justice system, and protecting reproductive rights.
A Detroit native with over a decade in the district, Jason holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a Master’s in Public Administration from Eastern Michigan University, along with a law degree from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. If re-elected, he will continue to be a pioneering voice as the first openly gay person of color in the Michigan Legislature.
