Biography

West Hollywood Councilmember and former Mayor John Erickson has been a leading voice in California for LGBTQ rights, reproductive justice, climate change, and social and economic justice. The former VP at Planned Parenthood Los Angeles has earned a reputation as an effective and proactive leader and coalition builder in the region. He has authored groundbreaking policies to fight MPOX, on housing and homelessness, and to fight climate change, all while generating a healthy budget surplus in his city. He is running for State Senate to help California fight back against the draconian policies of the Trump Administration, right-wing Congress, and Supreme Court. His proactive, forward-thinking leadership will help protect public education, create more housing and fight homelessness, protect the district from wildfires which ravage neighborhoods in the district yearly, while looking at the intersectionality of these issues and more. A native of Ripon, Wisconsin, John has a master’s degree in Applied Women’s Studies from Claremont Graduate University and a Ph.D in American Religious History. His volunteer advocacy work includes serving as a National Board member of the National Organization for Women and as Past President of the ACLU of Southern California.
