Biography

Rep. Marcia Morey, a former district court judge, lives in Durham, NC and is seeking her third term in NC General Assembly. Marcia has always been an advocate for the LGBTQ community and granted the first same sex adoption in North Carolina in 2005.

Rep. Morey left the bench in 2017 to go fight against the Republican majority that voted for the notorious HB 2 bathroom discrimination bill.

As a former judge, Morey was an advocate for children and worked to raise the age of juvenile jurisdiction to 18, which passed her first year in the State House. She currently is a member of the NC Task Force on Racial Justice and is the chairperson of the Juvenile Sentencing Review Board which recommends clemency petitions to the Governor for juveniles who have been sentenced to more than 20 years in prison.

Marcia believes in equal justice and fairness in civil rights, voting rights, the workplace, housing, public schools and access to health care.

In 1976, Marcia was the co-captain of the US Olympic Swim Team and a member of 2 world championship swim teams in Yugoslavia and Columbia. She was raised in Decatur, Illinois and has lived in Durham, NC since 1987.
