Biography

My name is Marcus Bush, I’m a proud father of 3, and current Councilmember for National City, CA running for re-election in National City Council, District 4. I grew up in the new District 4 – in the Lincoln Acres neighborhood of National City. After graduating from Sweetwater High School, I earned a Bachelor of Arts in City Planning and Spanish from San Diego State University and Master’s in Real Estate Development from Portland State University. I was appointed to National City’s Civil Service Commission in 2011 and the Planning Commission in 2013. I also served on the Board of Directors for the National City Chamber of Commerce and President of the National City Rotary Club. When I was elected to City Council in November of 2020, I made history as the first Afro-Latino, first openly-LGBTQ councilmember, and first Millennial elected in National City. I’m focused on addressing the housing & homelessness crisis, environmental health & climate change, and supporting small businesses.
