Biography
Mary Alford is a mom, grandmother, engineer and scientist that was first elected to the Alachua County Commission in 2020, defeating a 20 year incombant. Prior to being elected she was the Principal Engineer for an architecture and engineering design firm, The Sustainable Design Group, which specialized in energy efficiency, sustainability and green building, urban design, small homes and affordable housing. She also has a background in the power industry, in power operations. She is a 6th generation Floridian and has worked hard and served on many boards to protect Florida’s fragile environment. She currently shares her home with two dogs, four cats, and her brother. She enjoys gardening, preserving food, reading, kayaking, camping, and getting in good trouble. She is running for reelection on a platform of strong infrastructure, resiliency in the face of a changing climate, protecting our greenspace, and strong home rule in response to Florida’s oppressive government. Mary currently serves as Secretary for the National Association of Counties LGBT Leadership Council.
