Biography

Mason Pressler is a community organizer, activist, journalist and landscaper running for a seat on the Bay City Public Schools Board of Education.

A 2024 graduate and student of the district for almost a decade, Mason understands deeply the challenges faced by his district. He has served as a member of student government for 6 years, several times as the Student Council Liaison to the Board of Education and most recently as Vice President of the senior class.

As an openly gay Freshman in the district, Mason had received death threats from students at a neighboring school which he quickly reported to the Principals of both schools. Mason’s email to administrators wasn’t even met with a reply. This among other happenings in the district sparked Mason’s interest in the school board and he promptly began attending meetings.

Mason also sat on the Central High School Redesign Task Force where he repeatedly raised his concerns about third grade reading level deficit in the district, concerns that were never properly addressed.

The son of a coach, Mason has kept score for basketball and soccer games at Bay City Central High School for the past five years, finally becoming a district-employed game manager at the end of last year. Excited to finally be an official district employee, Mason was extremely disappointed to find that because he was a student in the district he would be payed hourly rather than per diem like other game managers in the district, some of which with less experience than himself. Instead of $35 per basketball game, Mason was paid $10.10 an hour which oftentimes meant he was making less than half of what those right next to him were making. After reecieving little help from the current board and hearing countless concerns from teachers, students, parents and staff, Mason made the decision to run for a spot of the Bay City Public Schools Board of Education.

Mason believes strongly in higher pay for teachers, smaller class sizes, working toward safer learning environments and shifting the culture of the district.

Mason also supports moving towards the consolidation of schools and districts in the county, allowing our communities to be more united and our resources to be spent for effectively.
