Biography
Rebecca Saltzman has represented El Cerrito as an elected BART Director for the past 12 years. Throughout her time on the BART Board, she has championed projects and programs to improve the two El Cerrito stations and to improve BART for everyone. Saltzman served as BART Board President in 2017 and 2022. She also has chaired the Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority Board and BART-AC Transit Interagency Liaison Committee, and she currently chairs the BART Audit Committee. As BART’s representative on the West Contra Costa Transportation Commission, she has worked to improve transportation throughout West Contra Costa County. Saltzman has also spent the last two decades as a leader on policy, fundraising, organizing, coalition building, and organizational management with local, state, and national issue-based non-profit organizations. In 2011, Saltzman received the League of Women Voters of Oakland’s Making Democracy Work Award in recognition of her work and commitment to increasing citizen engagement in local government. Saltzman graduated with a BA in Sociology from the University of California, Berkeley. She lives in the center of El Cerrito with her wife Caitlin and their daughter Zinnia.
