Dana Schallheim

Biography

Dana Schallheim was elected to represent Councilmanic District 5 on the Board of Education of Anne Arundel County in November 2018 and began a six-year term on December 3, 2018. She is currently an incumbent candidate for a second term in the 2024 election cycle. During her first term Mrs. Schallheim championed the most far-reaching LGTBQIA+ policy of any school system in the state of Maryland. This policy codified existing guidelines and covers topics from pronoun use, to preferred name, to student records, and facilities use. She is a staunch advocate in support of LGTBQIA+ rights with a long history of volunteering in this space going back more than 20 years including volunteering with Basic Rights Oregon and the Mississippi branch of the Human Rights Campaign. Mrs. Schallheim was born and raised in Los Angeles County, Calif. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Western Washington University and a Master of Business Administration from University of Brighton, England. She is currently an at-home parent, volunteer, and advocate. She volunteers regularly at her daughter’s school and for a variety of nonprofit organizations. Before having her daughter, Dana was an energy consultant on behalf of the U.S. Department of Energy and private utility clients. In that role, she executed energy efficiency and renewable energy programs. Dana and her husband, Jason, have lived all over the country and currently reside in Severna Park with their daughter. Highlights of her 36-year volunteer career include being named the ACLU of Mississippi’s Volunteer of the Year and leading a campaign through the Children’s Organ Transplant Association that raised $80,000. Ms. Schallheim is a frequent volunteer in AACPS schools and her daughter is an AACPS student.
