Stephen will continue to be an important voice for equality on the San Diego City Council
Biography
As the city councilmember for Downtown San Diego, Stephen Whitburn has established a reputation for being a hard-working, common-sense leader with a passion for policy and a list of accomplishments. Homelessness is down in his district, housing construction is up, and city services are expanding. Stephen is also chairman of the board of the Metropolitan Transit System, which operates San Diego’s bus and trolley network. Before voters elected him to the City Council, Stephen was an award-winning nonprofit leader. He was director of the American Cancer Society in Southern California, executive director of San Diego LGBT Pride, and led public affairs at the American Red Cross. Before that he was a highly-regarded radio news director. Stephen is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin. He earned his Leadership Certificate from the Center for Executive Development at the University of California-San Diego’s Rady School of Management. Stephen is also proficient in Spanish.
