Virginia’s only openly gay state legislator, Adam Ebbin, has been named communications director of the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network.
“I look forward to adding my efforts to SLDN’s talented team of professionals,” Ebbin said. “During this time of war, it is critical that we work to protect LGBT service members who are honorably serving our nation. ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ not only threatens careers but is a threat to the operational capacity of our military.”
In 1991, Ebbin worked in communications related to the separation of Captain Gregory Greeley from the U.S. Air Force. Greeley’s scheduled discharge and service in the Pentagon was delayed after coverage of his participation in Washington, D.C.’s gay pride parade.
Ebbin represents the state’s 49th district, which encompasses parts of Fairfax, Arlington and Alexandria.
