It is primary day for nine Victory Fund endorsed candidates across the nation, including six in New York. Among the candidates are Mel Wymore, who would become the first openly trans person to be elected in New York State if he wins a seat on the New York City Council, and LaWana Mayfield, who has been an outspoken voice for equality during her first two terms on the Charlotte City Council. Five LGBTQ candidates are running for seats on the New York City Council — creating an opportunity to dramatically increase LGBTQ representation on the council come November.
The nine candidates on the ballot today are:
Kevin Carroll, New York City Council, District 43, New York City, NY
Richard Conti, Albany Common Council, Ward 6, Albany, NY
Kris Fair, Frederick City Alderman, Frederick, MD
