Michael S. Fuller leads a private equity firm whose focus is on data centered technologies. He also continues to provide consulting and advisory services to senior executives in the private and public sectors helping reengineer and reinvigorate business processes and leadership teams. He guides lean startups, developing business strategies and plans, and securing capital. Widely known for his skills involving and introducing diversity and inclusion in the work place, Mike has won numerous honors and awards globally for his work in this area.
Most recently, Mike held senior executive roles at UnitedHealth Group, where he drove significant business change globally, identified and capitalized on market growth opportunities, and led diversity efforts. To achieve this, he developed strategies around global acquisitions and their integration, tracked operational management, ensured alignment with strategic goals, and expanded the company’s international opportunities in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. In his most recent executive assignment, based in London, he was the senior leader for one of UHG’s divisions in Europe, Middle East and Africa.
Prior to joining UnitedHealth Group, Mike served as Executive Vice President of Berlitz International. In this role he developed new consulting and service capabilities around global leadership and cultural consulting. He reported directly to the CEO, served on the corporation’s senior leadership team, and helped develop and implement strategies to transform Berlitz into one of the world’s leading learning companies.
Before joining Berlitz, Mike held key executive leadership roles at IBM spanning a career of more than 20 years. His last role at IBM was as Vice President and Global Alliance Solutions Leader for IBM’s Growth Market Unit, based in Shanghai. He led a highly specialized solution sales team that spanned Asia Pacific, Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America — regions of the world that were experiencing explosive economic development. This tactical team, based in key strategic markets, partnered with several software innovators such as SAP and Oracle. Coupled with IBM hardware, software, consulting and implementation services, the team implemented fast-tracked solutions that leveraged those software assets, generating over $1 billion in annual sales for IBM.
While at IBM, Mike developed Alliance and Partner strategies for IBM’s Business Process Outsourcing business, where he managed the implementation of strategies around key partners in the outsourcing landscape. He also directly managed several global alliances, which contributed to hundreds-of-millions in annual sales. As Vice President and Global Education Industry Leader in the Consulting Division of IBM Global Services, he directed the activities of all of IBM’s consultants who focused on K-12 and higher-education clients around the world. He joined IBM to build its initial consulting practices around data analytics and data mining, built that business, and ultimately became its global practice leader managing thousands of consultants worldwide.
His groundbreaking work at IBM led to one of the first global corporate efforts to recognize and tap the expanding LGBT marketplace. Mike commissioned the first global study of this marketplace, which led to creation of the first LGBT-focused corporate sales team at IBM. His service as Co-chair of IBM’s global Gay and Lesbian Task Force included managing sponsorships of significant LGBT organizations such as GLAAD, GLSEN, HRC and others. Beyond financial support to these organizations, he also provided executive mentorship and advice to the board and organization executives. Most notable was his stewardship of seed funding for Stonewall UK to support its anti-bullying initiatives. He also was instrumental in mentoring IBM LGBT employee groups across Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Asia — with a primary focus on the United Kingdom, India, and China.
He was a founding board member of the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce in the United States, where he served two terms as Chairman of the Board, and continues to serve as a board member. He was instrumental in founding its affiliated charitable foundation. He also was also a member of the Global Diversity and Inclusion Foundation Board of Directors where he served as Vice President and Treasurer. Mike was recently appointed to the Global Advisory Council for Healthcare Workforce.
Mike also provides philanthropic support for a wide variety of LGBT organizations and issues, as well as institutions of higher education through the Michael S. Fuller Charitable Trust.
