Washington, DC – In response to Leslie Herod becoming the first openly LGBTQ African American elected to the Colorado state legislature, Victory Fund President & CEO Aisha C. Moodie-Mills released the following statement:
“For the first time, Colorado voters are sending an openly LGBTQ African American to the state legislature, and we are thrilled that woman is Leslie Herod. She is a brilliant, community-oriented leader that will be a critical voice for equality not just for LGBTQ people, but for all Coloradans. Her election Tuesday is a sign voters reject the divisive rhetoric championed by Donald Trump and others this campaign season, and instead demand optimistic and thoughtful leaders that can unify communities.”
