Washington, DC – Today LGBTQ Victory Fund – the only national organization dedicated to electing LGBTQ leaders to public office – endorsed 13 more LGBTQ candidates for the 2021 election cycle, raising its total number of endorsed candidates to 106. Among the candidates is Guyleen Castriotta, who would be the first mayor of Broomfield in Colorado; Mauro Montoya, who would be the first LGBTQ Latino and first HIV-positive person elected to the Albuquerque City Council; and Rebecca Maurer, who would be the first LGBTQ woman elected to the Cleveland City Council.
“While many consider 2021 an off-election year because there are few state legislative or Congressional elections, it is local government that often affects the daily lives of its residents more than any other level of government,” said Mayor Annise Parker, President & CEO of LGBTQ Victory Fund. “The LGBTQ candidates we endorse today will champion equality at the local level – blocking bills attacking anti-trans students, passing laws that ban conversion therapy and changing hearts and minds in their communities along the way. We have groundbreaking candidates running across the country this year and together we can help them cross the finish line.”
